Town of Niskayuna
The Town of Niskayuna, located
in the northeast corner of Schenectady County, is one of the county's five towns
(and one city - Schenectady). It is separated from Southern Saratoga County by
the Mohawk River. The population is approximately 20,000, located in an area of
14.1 square miles.
Niskayuna is primarily a
residential area with 75% of the town's assessed value being supported by
residential development. Residential and commercial development is regulated by
a strict zoning ordinance.
The average family income of
Niskayuna residents in the highest in the Capital District Area.
There are four municipal parks
as well as a riverfront hiking and biking trail.
Schools
The Niskayuna Central School District serves the residents of
the Town of Niskayuna and portions of the City of Schenectady, and the towns of
Glenville, Clifton Park and Colonie There are five elementary schools, two
middle schools and one high school.
The population of the entire
district is approximately 4,000 with the average class size ranging from 19 at
the kindergarten level to 27 at the secondary level. The high school has been
recognized as a National School of Excellence and a nationally recognized
"Blue Ribbon School". Niskayuna High School is well-known for its
strong athletic programs.

Niskayuna is home
to the General Electric Corporate Research and Development Center,
Lockheed-Martin Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Schenectady International
research laboratory, Environment One, Bellevue Woman's Hospital and Hilltop
Manor Head Injury Hospital and Nursing Home.
